University of Chicago faculty to speak at the 2026 International Congress of Mathematics

July 8, 2025

The International Congress of Mathematicians happens every four years, the next one in Philadelphia in 2026. Before each congress, the International Union of Mathematicians forms a secret Program Committee that selects speakers for the congress among those who have made the most important contributions to mathematics in the last four years.

It is a special honor for the Department of Mathematics at the University of Chicago to have four of its members invited to speak at the ICM 2026

  • Frank Calegari (Number Threory)
  • Yu Deng (PDE)
  • Simion Filip (Dynamics)
  • Tomer Schlank (Topology)

We also want to congratulate our colleague Rina Foygel Barber from the Department of Statistics at the University of Chicago, who is also invited to speak at the ICM 2026 in the section of statistics.
