This June the University will give honorary doctorates to two mathematicians. One is our colleague, former president Bob Zimmer, who has led and strengthened the university for many years -- and, close to home, greatly influenced the intellectual direction of our own department.
The other is Helene Esnault, a noted algebraic geometer who has close connections to the mathematics of our department. We look forward to her visit, when she will give a colloquium a few days before receiving this award.
