Course Hours and Credit

Course Hours and Credit

Please note: ISBE changed their requirements for a Middle Grade endorsement.

The University of Chicago runs on a quarter system: Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer. In the SESAME Program, teachers can sign up for one class per quarter. Each class meets for a total of 30 hours per quarter, which equates to 3.33 semester hours.

The academic year sessions (Autumn, Winter, and Spring) meet on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During the summer, the SEASME Program offers a two-week session meeting Monday through Friday during the first half of August and includes a morning and an afternoon schedule. This is a great opportunity to complete two courses within two weeks before the end of summer.

Currently, our courses are intended for teachers who are seeking a Subsequent Middle Grade Endorsement. Teachers are given letter grades upon completion of a course. Official University of Chicago transcripts can be ordered through the Registrar’s Office and then submitted to the Illinois State Board of Education for credit towards endorsements. In addition, SESAME credit can be used for Chicago Public Schools Professional Development Hours, Lane increases, and License Renewals.

Please note: The SESAME Program is not a degree-seeking program, and this credit does not count towards a Masters Degree at the University of Chicago.
