Title: Quantum Topology and Hyperbolic Geometry

Abstract:

The famous Kashaev Volume Conjecture connects the asymptotics of certain quantum invariants of knots to the hyperbolic volume of their complement. I will discuss a related toy problem, deceptively set one dimension lower, for diffeomorphisms of surfaces. I will present some results, including unexpected ones, for the simplest case where the surface is the one-puncture torus. This is joint work with Helen Wong and Tian Yang.
