Title: Symplectic Maps: Geometry, Algebra, Dynamics

Abstract: Symplectomorphism groups play a central role in topology, serving as symmetries of the symplectic structure, and in dynamics, modeling the motions of classical mechanics. Despite being infinite-dimensional, these groups exhibit surprising properties that, in some respects, resemble those of simple compact Lie groups. In this talk, I will discuss this in the context of the coarse geometry of symplectomorphism groups, with connections to algebra and dynamics. Based on joint works with Lev Buhovsky, Ben Feuerstein, and Egor Shelukhin.
