Colloquium: Tadashi Tokieda (Stanford)

3:30–4:30 pm Eckhart Hall, Room 206

Title: Toy Models

Abstract: ‘Toy’ here has a special sense: an object/phenomenon of daily life which we can find or cobble together in minutes, yet which, if played with imaginatively, reveals a behavior so surprising that they puzzle seasoned scientists for weeks.  We will see many table-top demos of such toys, and visit some unusual mathematics and physics that they open up. The theme that emerges is singularity.

So, would you like to come see some toys?
